The Jordan's Principle Support will create a direct link between schools in ASD-N and Jordan's Principle service coordinators. Reporting to the ASD-N Director of First Nations Education and Director of Educational Support Services, they will act as the main point of contact for DESST, ESSTs, School Principals and/or designates when requesting support from Jordan's Principle to address the educational needs of First Nation students within ASD- N. The position will provide leadership, guidance, and support to schools to ensure First Nation students receive the support they need to reach their full potential academically, behaviorally, and socially.

Responsibilities include:

  • Work in collaboration with school-based team members with the completion of Jordan's Principle applications, respond to documentation requirements, and update the status of referrals.
  • Support schools in accessing educational support and provide programs and services designed to support First Nation students achieve their potential academically and behaviorally for First Nation students living both on and off community.
  • Advocate for substantive equity for First Nation students and their families as Rightsholders.
  • Ensure that culturally appropriate supports are put in place, based on the student's learning profile that all District support avenues have been exhausted.
  • Track referrals and report to the District Education Support Service Team (DESS)
  • Data Collection: Track and maintain statistical data, including the overall effectiveness of the supports provided through Jordan's Principle. Develop ways to collect and analyze data and other information to inform supports which will enable the DESS Team to better respond to the needs of First Nation children.
  • Build strong relationships with school-based ESS Teams and outside agencies. Develop partnerships with frontline workers and professionals, including speech pathologists, occupational therapists, psychologists, and nurses that may provide services.
  • Provide Professional Learning within ASD-N regarding Jordan's Principle, and our processes.
  • Liaising between school, community, families, students and other stakeholders
  • Travel is required
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Experience:
  • Valid New Brunswick Teaching Certificate
  • B Contract with Anglophone North School District
  • Minimum of five (5) years teaching experience in the public school system
  • Master of Education (CERT VI) , with preference given to Exceptionalities or a directly related field
  • Experience working as an EST Resource Teacher
  • Demonstrated ability in problem-solving , planning, and determining appropriate programming needs for students
  • Experience participating as a member of school-based ESS Teams
  • Demonstrated ability to collect and analyze data to inform planning, programming, and next steps
  • Strong understanding of ESS Connect and the ESS supports available to students within ASD-N
  • Knowledge of Jordan's Principle and its application and processes within ASD-N
  • Ability to coordinate multiple projects and tasks simultaneously , with strong time-management and organizational skills
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Experience in a leadership role
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively and build strong professional relationships
  • Strong understanding of ISD
