Under the direction of the Subject Area Coordinator (SAC) for First Nation Education and Social Studies , the successful candidate will be part of a collaborative team supporting schools, educators, and learners.

Description:

The individual will work closely with the SAC-First Nations Education & Social Studies to support teachers, students, and schools with the implementation of the Holistic Curriculum Framework and Indigenous Education. It is expected that the individual will have knowledge in Indigenous history and culture. This knowledge will assist teachers in applying Indigenous pedagogical practices and building culturally safe schools.

In addition, the individual will be expected to have knowledge of the humanities and social sciences as well as best and emerging practice in the teaching of social studies with a focus on historical thinking and civics.

The successful candidate must be able to work with a minimum of supervision and have strong interpersonal, organizational, and relationship building skills.

Responsibilities include:

  • Promoting awareness and appreciation of Indigenous culture and history in ASD
  • Supporting the SAC- First Nation Education & Social Studies
  • Work with teachers, schools, and administrators to assist in the integration of classroom and school practices
  • Create resources to support Indigenous education and the social sciences
  • Support teachers in the instructional and assessment practices that facilitate learning Indigenous education and social studies
  • Facilitate professional learning for educators
  • Support school-based professional learning
  • Facilitate networking of educators through district-wide PLCs
  • Other duties may be assigned

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Valid New Brunswick Teaching Certificate
  • B Contract with Anglophone North School District
  • Minimum of five (5) years teaching experience in the public school system
  • Strong knowledge of curriculum documents , supporting resources, and formative and summative assessment practices
  • Demonstrated knowledge, skills, and competencies related to Indigenous education and social studies
  • Effective communication, organizational, administrative, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment
